Knowledge commons refer to knowledge that is shared and managed in a cooperative way. A common resource, i.e. knowledge, is created, shared and diffused through cooperative models, such as communities of practice or digital platforms (e.g., Wikipedia, open educational resources, Jamendo in the music industry). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_commons

Eddie Soulier (Université de Technologie de Troye) presented the epistemological foundations of knowledge commons, using the example of communities of practice. Jean-Benoît Zimmermann (CNRS, Université d’Aix-Marseille) presented innovative research on “creative commons” http://creativecommons.fr/, i.e. specific forms of copyright allowing inspiration and use of intellectual creations such as software or music by others for free. Finally, Leo Joubert (Université d’Aix-Marseille) presented his work on the governance of Wikipedia.
