MSc Digital Business director presents research at Harvard

Published on 23 March 2018

Zakaria Babutsidze, director of SKEMA’s MSc Digital Business, presented his research on the emergence of new currencies at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and the 44th Annual Conference of the Eastern Economic Association in Boston.

The title of this research is “The Emergence of Money: Computational approaches with fully and boundedly rational agents”. It is co-authored with Zakaria Babutsidze (professor and director of SKEMA’s MSc Digital Business and Maurizio Iacopetta (SKEMA professor and senior economist at the OFCE).

This research has strong implications for our understanding of the proliferation of crypto-currencies, for it underlines the speculative rationale behind accepting such costly assets in exchange for low-risk assets (conventional currencies).

After the comments that followed the two presentations, the next step will be to carry our tests on human subjects to define the behavioural rules that individuals follow when they act in such uncertain environments.
