MSc Strategic Event & Tourism Management 15th anniversary

Published on 27 April 2016

Alumni, supporters, lecturers and students were reunited on Friday 22nd of April 2016 to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the MSc Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management. 80 attendees gathered around a cocktail reception and party activities on the Sophia Antipolis campus.

The MSc programme has developed both in scope and size over its 15 years of history. Created in 2001, the MSc in Strategic Tourism Management was joined by the Event and Meeting Management MSc in 2008 and both programmes united in 2011, giving birth to the current MSc in Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management.

Adopting a travel theme, attendees were asked to register at the airline check-in desk and were taken care of by pilot Tom and his able crew throughout the evening. They learnt more about the programme, its successful alumni and corporate supporters in welcome speeches delivered by Mady Keup, MSc Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management course director, Pascal Vidal, director of undergraduate & postgraduate programmes at SKEMA, as well as a very special guest, all the way from Canada:  Frédéric Dimanche, the founder and former director of the programme.

During the evening, participants tested their musical knowledge with a “guess this tune” competition, featuring songs from the 15 years of the MSc Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management's life. They could also create visual souvenirs of the evening by taking pictures on the VIPBOX photo booth, where the photos could be printed out instantly or shared via email and posted on Facebook.

The event was organised by 14 event management students from the current MSc Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management class, as part of their assignments for a course entitled Meeting Essentials. It presented a good opportunity for them to apply the theories and techniques learned during this year of studies.

Of course, there is no anniversary without a cake! Attendees tested French excellence in patisserie after Mady Keup and Frédéric Dimanche cut the MSc Strategic Event Management & Tourism Management birthday cake (pictured).

Summing up the evening, Jonathan Sitruk, MSc Strategic Tourism Management student in 2009-10, said : “Your students were professional and provided us with a successful event. The organisation, theme, and overall feeling was very pleasant! Congratulations on these 15 years!”
