How AI will disrupt business models

Published on 08 November 2018

This breakfast meeting in SKEMA’s Knowledge & Innovation / "Innovation & Connaissance" series took place 25 October on the theme: Will AI disrupt our business models?. Isabelle Decoopman (SKEMA professor) and Olivier Clatz (CEO & co-founder of Therapixel) spoke.

Strong versus weak artificial intelligence, supervised or non-supervised learning through reinforcement, intelligent machines, machine-learning, deep learning… the AI vocabulary is highly complex and not easy to grasp for companies and organisations. Although artificial intelligence was born in the 1950s, it is hard today to get away from the controversial discussions it entails, and these go so far as to oppose major players from both economic and political spheres.

This talk clarified what exactly AI is, and more specifically, how it questions the business models of so-called traditional companies. Does AI imply a potential for differentiation, optimisation and disruption? Will it really modify the way companies create, capture and diffuse value? Does it affect every sector of activity, and if so how far, and above all, when is all this going to happen?
