The role of emotions in disruptive innovations: SKEMA Innovation and Knowledge Cycle

Share

The next breakfast workshop by SKEMA’s Innovation and Knowledge Cycle will present an original approach in the form of an “emotional adaptation model” to enable participants to handle more effectively the increasing rate of disruptive innovations associated with the digital sector in a corporate environment. The event will take place on 5 February from 8:30 am to 10 am at SKEMA’s Sophia Antipolis campus (coffee will be served from 8 am).

Approaches to handling emotions in companies have always been delicate as the issue is taboo. At times, emotions are either neglected, or taken too much into account, or are lost in the codes of social ethics. This phenomenon has become more pronounced with the increasing rate of disruptive innovations associated with the digital sector: emotions in a work scenario have been supervised, codified, evaluated and judged. Against this backdrop of rapid transition, where digitalisation has brought about a radical increase in knowledge of how to manage innovation, knowledge and expertise in companies, human and emotional support has become more necessary than ever.

Using Amadeus as an exploratory terrain for her applicative research, Cyrille Comole-Theveniaud (temporary professor at SKEMA) developed an emotional adaptation model that highlighted the importance of cognition and of contextualising the emotional filter in successful digital transformations. Amadeus is highly involved in innovation, focused on well-being in the workplace and the core values of collaboration, and technological anticipation and excellent results. It was highly receptive to the idea of using “emotionality” as a catalyst for digital transformation.

Franck Di Rollo, Digital Services Architecture Director in the Major Transformation Programmes at Amadeus, will cast a spotlight on an initiative that shows how the corporation has benefited from the model’s recommendations and transformed its systemic approach.
