Suzhou campus spring term kicks off

January 8, SKEMA Suzhou campus’s spring started with 338 students from 25 countries.

The first day started with an ice-breaker breakfast, then Matthieu Dumont (director of the Suzhou campus) and Li Hua (campus academic director) gave welcome speeches followed by a presentation of the campus, and a discussion of the rules of conduct in China, given by Suzhou’s public authorities. Students also had a chance to have their first Chinese lesson in China and enjoyed the Chinese kong-fu and face-changing shows.

Over the next two days, SKEMA Suzhou organised a city tour for students. Almost all the students visited the Lingering Garden and enjoyed the beautiful scenery (this is one of China's most famous gardens, the United Nations has listed it as a world cultural heritage site).

Students then went to Suzhou's First Silk Factory (which has a 93-year history and is important in the Chinese silk industry) where they learnt the whole procedure of silk production, including how to breed worms, kesi (a type of weaving), etc.

Lucas Darrieu, a student of the BBA in Global Management talked about this trip: ”This is my first time to China. China is amazing. I took many beautiful pictures and learned much about China during the tour. I like the explanation of that guide very much. My next step is finding more Chinese food, such as noodles and dumplings.”
