Finance & Accounting Insights on Risk and Regulation
Finance & Accounting Insights on Risk and Regulation (FAIRR) is dedicated to promoting top-level research and policy impact in corporate finance, market finance and accounting.
The missions of the FAIRR research Centre are twofold. First, the centre contributes to the advancement of academic research by producing high-level publications, with a view to influencing the academic debate. Second, it achieves impact through contributions to the societal debate, most notably through the influence of its members' expertise on policy makers, regulators and standard setters.
Research themes
The FAIRR Research Center is dedicated to producing high quality academic research in Finance and Accounting. The research center comprises about 25 faculty members in finance and accounting and PhD students. FAIRR members are particularly focused on developing high-level expertise in the areas of digital finance, entrepreneurial finance, governance, intermediaries, corporate restructuring, disclosure, financial regulation and household finance alongside other corporate finance, market finance and accounting topics.
Members have published in top-ranked journals in finance, accounting, management, economics and entrepreneurial finance (including American Economic Review, Economic Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Management Science, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Finance and Review of Financial Studies).
SKEMA's Fintech Initiative
Four FAIRR researchers: Armin Schwienbacher, Fabio Bertoni, Bastien Buchwalter, and Engin Iyidogan have put in place SKEMA's Fintech Initiative, which aims at deepening our understanding of the new opportunities and challenges that arise with digital transformation: new financing methods for startups, blockchain technology and entrepreneurial opportunities. It builds on the fact that the recent technological developments have led to a series of transformative innovations in the area of financial services. This digitalisation of financial services entails both risk and opportunity, not only for the financial sector but also for the society as whole. The FinTech Initiative aims to better understand the impact and reach of this digital transformation.
International Corporate Governance
The second topic on International Corporate Governance is led by Florencio Lopez de Silanes. His academic and applied work has dealt broadly with the analysis of what governance structures are appropriate for what economies and firms, what makes for good laws and regulations. Today, several researchers at FAIRR work in related areas, leading to a critical mass of research output in international corporate governance.
