The relationship between the legal world, artificial intelligence, the job market, and ethical issues will be discussed in the panels.
Well-known names from the national and international technology and legal scene will attend the event, including Thierry Warin, professor of data science at Cirano (Montreal, Canada), Manuel David Masseno, adjunct professor and data protection officer at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja (Portugal), Antonio Marino from University of Salvador (Argentina) and Pisa (Italy), and Wilson Benevides, judge at the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais State, Bráulio Gabriel Gusmão, assistant judge for the presidency of the National Council of Justice and Bruno Meyerhof Salama, visiting professor at UC Berkeley School of Law, among others.
Edgar Jacobs, the coordinator of the postgraduate law and AI programme at SKEMA's Belo Horizonte campus, explains: “Today there are various demands concerning the linkage between law and data science, but we need to learn how to use the new artificial intelligence tools already available and accessible to lawyers. On the other hand, it is also necessary to understand how these technologies impact the judiciary as well as business activities in general, subjects that all our guests master.”
According to the dean of SKEMA’s Brazilian campus, Géneviève Poulingue, “The judiciary as well as law firms are already using AI, so professionals and students need to be fully prepared for this new way of practising law.”
