123, We Aren't Wooden People: China graduate's art expo

Published on 21 January 2021

An experimental art exhibition called 123, We Aren’t Wooden People, curated by Xinyi Huang, raised its curtain December 19 on the bund in Shanghai, and gained the attention of ordinary people, artists and the media in Shanghai.

Xinyi graduated from SKEMA with a master's degree in MSc Luxury and Fashion Management in 2013, She is the founder of Creative Shelter, a community-driven art plus mindfulness space offering a variety of mindfulness and creative practices which enable people to achieve sustainable well-being.

As the event curator, Xinyi invited 18 excellent artists to create this art exhibition together. She realises the truth of creating an art piece is experiencing the self-doubt, fears, incapabilities (and more) which arise from the process, thus she hopes to present the process of artistic creation to the audience, and everyone’s participation makes the whole movement into another piece of art work.

“For a long time, I have had a crazy idea... with the opening of this experimental art exhibition in Shanghai. My "crazy dream" has finally come true! This time, the entire artistic creation process of 18 artists are presented to everyone as part of the exhibition. By doing so, I hope to make art become more grounded... Because I believe art is the right of all the public, not the privilege of belonging to a group of people.”
