"A Chef on Campus" at SKEMA Lille

Published on 23 October 2019

With the support of SKEMA Talent & Careers on SKEMA’s Lille campus, Fondation pour l’Innovation et la Transmission du Goût (Foundation for Innovation and for Taste Education) and Auchan Retail France organised “A Chef on Campus” cookery workshops on 8 October.

The participants got an opportunity to chat with a chef and employees from Auchan Retail France. The goal of the event was to help students learn to eat well on a small budget, and to discover Auchan Retail France, its job opportunities and career prospects by meeting its employees.

Around 70 students took part in the workshops and prepared a starter and main dish under the chef’s guidance. As the other students watched them avidly, the student chefs learnt some new recipes and got tips on healthy eating. They were also able to chat with Auchan Retail France employees (often SKEMA graduates) and the event organisers.

Students from the Primeline, Lille des Saveurs and PourParlers associations facilitated the event.

Sylvie Deguil, director of SKEMA Talent & Careers, explained: “This event follows a fun and very different approach that really gets students involved. It also strengthens links with Auchan Retail France around shared values.”

Sophie Gerstenhaber, general delegate of the Fondation pour l’Innovation et la Transmission du Goût and director of La Semaine du Goût® (Taste Week), added: “For the students, a healthy meal sometimes seems too complicated or too expensive to make, yet a balanced diet is essential for mental and physical health. This is what ‘A Chef on Campus’ is all about: demonstrating that contrary to what students might believe, it is possible to make healthy and tasty meals with limited financial resources. With this is mind, taste educators (catering industry professionals, chefs and food producers, etc.) visit amphitheatres to put on a special culinary show for students.”

“For us, A Chef on Campus is an innovative event that provides another way of tackling the major food causes of our times and raising our profile with the students of our partner schools,” emphasised Patrick Peysson, head of school and work-study relations at Auchan Retail France.
