China campus at Suzhou: first environmental summit

Published on 06 December 2018

November 24, the first environmental summit organised by SKEMA’s CollectActive society was held on SKEMA's Suzhou campus.

Four professionals shared their experience of sustainable development with participating students. From topics on the quality of our air to the creation of one's own business, the speakers listened and answered questions concerning this growing field.

Participants were able to contribute to CollectActive's project by exchanging their old items with pillows, wallets, backpacks, bowls and other items. Over refreshments and snacks afterwards, they were also able to meet like-minded people who shared the same values and engagement.

Consumption and waste are intertwined. When arriving at a new campus, students buy items which they use for a short time before disposing of it. The main objective of CollectActive is to promote environmentally friendly development on the Suzhou campus and its surroundings. To achieve this, the society collects any household items left by departing students to then offer these as second-hand products at competitive prices to arriving students. All the profits raised during this process will be donated to an organisation in Suzhou involved in sustainability. The profits are also used to invite guest speakers with a background on the subject and to organise events to raise the awareness of SKEMA and its staff.
