Design your Career event: boosts graduates on the job market

Published on 15 November 2018

In partnership with Spring, the recruitment consultants for executives and specialist technicians from The Adecco Group, SKEMA held, in September, the first Design Your Career event.

Over 2400 French and international SKEMA students from the campuses of Lille, Paris and Sophia Antipolis were given expert advice by over 60 Spring recruitment consultants as part of the Design Your Career operation. Thirty workshops took place to encourage students to discover the careers open to them once they have finished their education, including how to approach the market, techniques for searching, soft skills and storytelling.

The Design Your Career operation, which is in line with SKEMA's policy for ensuring that its curricula stay relevant, is a fresh illustration of its ongoing innovations in teaching, including in the form of the partnership relations it maintains with companies. This innovation is supported by the Corporate Office at SKEMA and the programme managers.

François-Xavier Théry, Corporate Office director at SKEMA, says “Our aim is to give our students the most operational advice possible in terms of industries/competencies/soft skills, to help them choose their own careers and their professional orientation in a world where recruitment is changing on a constant basis. To do this, we joined forces with the world number one in HR services, The Adecco Group, and its subsidiary specialising in recruitment for executives, Spring. One element specific to this partnership is our ability to accompany our students anywhere in the world, anywhere we have a presence: in China, in the USA and in Brazil, and not merely in France. When our students visit our international campuses, our role is to talk to them about the local employment market and the HR executive recruitment practices in these international locations: recruitment does not take place in the same way in France as it does in the USA or Brazil. The Adecco Group, and Spring in particular, have the requisite size and capacity to be our partners. The jobs market is very dynamic as far as recruiting executives is concerned, and we are going to work with Spring to roll out innovative solutions to meet companies’ requirements and students’ career plans.“

Laurent da Silva, managing director of Spring (The Adecco Group): “We are proud to be involved in this campaign and to have participated in this outreach to students, to give them advice for their future job searches and to give them the keys to understanding a jobs market that is constantly changing. Our world is in the middle of a technological evolution; students therefore have to understand that this will also have an impact on the labour market - new jobs are emerging and technical skills are becoming obsolete at an increasingly rapid pace. We are therefore recruiting more based on potential and on behavioural skills, which we call soft skills: curiosity, the ability to learn, a critical mind, being a team player... We therefore strongly encourage students to develop these skills as soon as they begin their training.“
