Raleigh: ESDHEM students explore North Carolina

Published on 21 October 2021

Students from the ESDHEM programme made the most of the mild Indian summer in North Carolina to visit an iconic local market: the Raleigh Farmers Market.

Last month, the 15 ESDHEM students present on SKEMA's Raleigh campus in the United States met North Carolina farmers at the Raleigh Farmers Market. This outing was part of a writing and communication class with Beryl Pittman, their English professor. During their outing, the students were able to meet local farmers who sell their produce at this market.

The students were able to immerse themselves in the North Carolinian culture. "It was a rewarding experience. We particularly enjoyed meeting the farmers and chatting with them. We discovered many products from North Carolina," said Paul Joly, an ESDHEM student.

An inspiring concept

During their excursion, the students ate at the Farmers Market restaurant, an experience that was a pleasant surprise for them. "It was all fantastic, exploring a market, meeting real farmers with a profound passion for their produce, the farm restaurant — which was quite different from the fast food we're used to — and the park with its perfect views over the Raleigh city centre," said Matthieu Onillon, another student. In addition to this, the students appreciated spending time with each other and developing a feeling of solidarity within their group.
