Women’s Day event at SKEMA Suzhou

Published on 19 March 2019

8 March, student societies on SKEMA's Suzhou campus collaborated with Oikos from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University to organise the first International Woman’s Day event at the campus.

The event’s objective was to raise awareness on the importance of gender equality at the workplace and in general, and on how women manage their time between their private and professional lives.

Students, professors and professionals participated in the event, which featured three special guests: Dr Kamal Panchal, executive officer at Model United Nations China, Dr Santa Stopniece, professor at SKEMA with a PhD in intercultural communication, and Marie Prevot, SKEMA alumni and founder of CoreCreation.

This event enabled students and professionals to meet and discuss the opportunities for women to develop their career throughout their lives,” said Dimitri Smania, Happiness Association.

After an opening statement introducing the speakers and the event’s main themes, the attendees listened to the personal and professional experiences of the speakers regarding gender equality. Then they participated in the open discussion session regarding the future, fighting stereotypes, and how traditions still impact women’s lives.

Collect’Active is proud to be leading the first SKEMA Suzhou International Woman’s Day event. We hope this discussion between students and professionals will lead to more awareness and action from both the sides to improve women’s possibilities at the workplace, in China and abroad,” explained Marine Moisan, Collect’Active Association.
