The event was organised by the Government of Monaco, the Monaco-China Association, the Côte d’Azur Confucius Institute and Monaco Dragon Prestige. Professionals, students and representatives of the Chinese community were present at the event.
After emphasising China’s importance in globalisation today (the world’s leading exporter, 19% of global GDP, 11% of global trade, etc.), Prof. Bouchet went on to detail what he deems to be “China’s seven economic challenges for sustainable development”. These included supporting growth while diversifying its components, circumventing Donald Trump’s trade restrictions, financing growth without risking over-indebtedness, managing and reducing regional North-South disparities in income and growth, reinforcing its competitiveness and its “added value”, managing demographic transition, and, finally, stimulating development via “the new Silk Roads” in Eurasia.
Prof. Bouchet is a specialist in international finance and an investment fund adviser, particularly for emerging countries. He has lived and worked in China, where he was involved in the creation of the SKEMA campus in Suzhou which he subsequently managed. SKEMA’s Suzhou campus is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
