Published on 16 October 2019

On 10 September in Montreal, SKEMA inaugurated its new Global Lab in Augmented Intelligence and its new R&D centre, the SKEMA Quantum Studio. Soon, the lab will start rolling out its tools across the school’s programmes within the eponymous platform.

This range of programmes is expanding with the creation of new exceptional courses and double or triple degrees with major international institutions such as LMU in Germany and Loyola, UC Berkeley and Harvard in the United States.

SKEMA is setting up in Montreal, the Silicon Valley of AI, ranking second in the world for AI research
SKEMA Business School inaugurated its new AI laboratory, SKEMA Global Lab in AI and its R&D centre: the SKEMA Quantum Studio with its eponymous collaborative platform on 10 September in Montreal, in the presence of a number of the city’s leading institutions. The school will roll out the research and platform developed in Montreal across all its campuses in Brazil, China, France, South Africa and the United States. This will be the first laboratory to develop AI practices and tools worldwide for prestigious universities.

AI in programmes, to train the new generations
Through this laboratory and its SKEMA Quantum Studio platform, the school will be providing its students with a tool set, as well as new knowledge and skills that will enable them to run the companies of the 21st century and work in new professions. From the Global BBA four-year undergraduate programme to the Grande Ecole programme right up to the postgraduate programmes (Masters of Science-MSc and Specialised Masters®-MS), students will be capable of understanding and developing projects involving AI.

SKEMA is opening two new courses focusing on AI within the Grande Ecole programme: the Signature in AI course based around data sciences, and an industrial strategy course based on the content developed by Harvard Business School’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness.

Professor Thierry Warin at the helm
Professor of applied data science for international business and creator of an international-data visualisation platform in Montreal (Mondo International), Thierry Warin joined SKEMA at the beginning of 2019 to create and run the laboratory. “The SKEMA AI laboratory will help create a new generation of managers ready to run the companies of today and tomorrow using tools and analytical thought that are able to address the challenges of our society. It’s a unique laboratory given its international scope since its inception, its cutting-edge methods combining data science and artificial intelligence and its fields of study that include finance, international affairs and corporate strategy. With this laboratory, we are giving ourselves a head start on what will follow fundamental research into artificial intelligence,” said Thierry Warin.

During a presentation of the SKEMA Global Lab in AI to the French press on 30 September, several partnerships of excellence with renowned international academic institutions and new double and triple degrees were also announced. These will begin at the start of the new academic year in 2020.

An MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation with UC Berkeley
MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation students will have access to a brand-new course, thanks to a partnership with the prestigious UC Berkeley in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley.
This university, founded in 1891, will offer a semester of immersion on its campus, which is known as the Mecca of entrepreneurship. More broadly, SKEMA will award its students a double degree: the MSc in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Start-up Management from UC Berkeley Extension. This course will also be accessible to students in the Grande Ecole programme, thus paving the way for a double degree – the master’s degree and the Berkeley diploma.

With this course, students will have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the famous UC Berkeley graduates who have helped create global brands such as Apple, eBay and Tesla, and in turn create their own start-up.

It will be held within the UC Berkeley Engineering’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology and include courses in product design, product management, marketing research, entrepreneurial leadership, UX design, design thinking and prototyping, etc. The students taking part in this programme will have access to all the services available at UC Berkeley: incubators, career guidance (including the granting of OPT), the business ecosystem, etc.

A brand-new triple Master’s with major American and German institutions: Loyola University (New Orleans) X SKEMA (Grand Paris campus) X Ludwig Maximilian University (Munich).
Study and gain experience in three cities (New Orleans, Paris and Munich) and three cultures – such is the promise of this all-new programme. Students enrolling in the LOYOLA X SKEMA X LMU triple master will be able to simultaneously obtain the American MBA, the Grande Ecole programme Master’s degree and the German Master’s in Business Administration.

Today, the synergy between an MBA and master’s, combining a high-level academic education and professional experience in an international context, can prepare multicultural talents that are sought after by global recruiters.

That is why the University of Loyola, SKEMA Business School and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich have decided to work together to offer an exclusive triple master’s which will welcome its first students in August 2020. At the end of a two-year programme taking them from New Orleans (semester 1), to Paris (semester 2 on the future SKEMA Grand Paris campus) and then to Munich (semester 3), followed by a professional dissertation, they will obtain 120 ECTS credits and diplomas from the three institutions.

In addition to the unique experience on offer, this also means access to an exponential service offering in terms of alumni networks and potential recruiters.
