SKEMA student smashes South America cycling record

Published on 02 March 2017

SKEMA alumnus Axel Carion and his Swedish accomplice Andreas Fabricius have broken the record of crossing South America by bike, travelling 11,000 kilometres in 49 days (previous record: 58 days).

They left Cartagena in Colombia on January 1st, and the two men reached Ushuaia in Argentina today on February 20.

For this feat, our two champions had to face extreme conditions, going from 40 degrees to minus 5 degrees, crossing no less than five countries for a cumulative drop of some 86,000 metres.

The performance was also for a good cause as the duo's objective was to raise €16 000 to the benefit of the NGO Pompiers sans Frontières.
