SKEMA students come second in the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup

Published on 22 June 2022

The Gargantue'sk student oenology association recently won the second place in the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup. This competition brings together students from across the world around a common passion: oenology. During this tournament, the students’ fine performance led them to be declared as the runners-up.

Organised by Commanderie du Bontemps, the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup is a wine-tasting competition for oenology clubs from universities and elite colleges around the world. The oenophiles battle it out in tests including presentations, multiple choice questionnaires and blind tastings. "Participating in the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup was particularly important to us. Not only because of the competition's international reputation but, above all, to get solid feedback on the knowledge and techniques we acquired during our training sessions," said Martin Rue, Hippolyte Moulin, and Mark Petit, the three members of the finalist team and students of the Master in Management (PGE) programme.

A competition focussed on sharing

Although the stakes of a competition such as this are considerably high for student associations, they never forget the real objective underlying it. "It's a competition between students from different continents, but it's really all about sharing and discussing around a common passion," said the three oenologists. In the final round, Cornell University (USA) came first and SKEMA and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) were placed second and third, respectively.
