SKEMA USA mentoring programme

Published on 23 October 2021

Léo Pinon, SKEMA 2019 alumnus, was one of the very first mentees in the SKEMA USA mentoring programme. Léo, who is now an international marketing specialist in Raleigh, NC, joined the mentoring programme again this semester, this time as a mentor.

He is also part of the programme’s newest feature, the Expert Council, a group of professionals willing to answer specific career questions and share insight into their areas of expertise through one-on-one sessions

Almost 100 SKEMA USA students have enrolled in the programme this semester. This joint effort between SKEMA USA and the Global Training Initiative at NC State University has been offered on the Raleigh campus for the last three year to allow students to connect with and learn from experienced professionals in the local community.

Students are paired with mentors based on the style of mentorship they opt for: professional, cultural, or both. Through these interactions, SKEMA students have the opportunity to gain valuable professional guidance and to sharpen the skills they will need for post-graduation success in a global economy: professionalism, leadership, cross-cultural communication, networking, cultural adaptability, and more.

Randall Schawel, mentoring programme director, says that “the programme allows students to create relationships that will have a positive impact on their experience at SKEMA USA, and on their careers after graduation.” Mentees and mentors have had the opportunity to meet and connect through two networking events organised this past month by Mr. Schawel and Career Services Manager, Amanda Chamberlain. Many of them have also met at cultural events such as the yearly and very popular North Carolina State Fair, which is taking place this month in Raleigh.
