US campus: alumnus on OPT, a temporary US work visa

Published on 24 December 2018

December 5, Adrien Vives, a former MSc International Business student of the Raleigh campus, who is currently on optional practical training (OPT), spoke to current OPT-eligible students about what they can expect from the programme.

Adrien shared his success story and experience with OPT. OPT allows international students in the US (F-1 students) who have successfully completed their final year in the US to apply for an EAD (employment authorisation document). The EAD allows F-1 students to work in their field of study up to 12 months in the US.

Adrien gave practical information to students who wish to apply for OPT. He shared how important it is to persevere in networking and gave tips on how to make genuine connections. Adrien discussed differences in foreign/US  work cultures and answered questions from the audience.

For more information about OPT, contact Mariora Texier who is based on the Raleigh campus.
