Abstract:
The ontological, epistemological, and methodological foundations of inductive research—whether that be in the tradition of grounded theory, ethnography, phenomenology, narrative inquiry, etc.—have been useful to social scientists for decades. Many, however, see the advances being made in AI and machine learning as representing significant disruptions to our traditional practices. In this talk, I'll explore the space in which our traditional foundations of inductive research are converging with the technological advances of AI and examine how we might be able to both maintain the foundations of our practice while reaping the benefits afforded by these advancing technologies.
