2024: a sporty year for SKEMA Publika!
Thanks to its ever-growing network of partners, experts, and researchers from diverse backgrounds, SKEMA Publika anticipates the societal and geopolitical transformations of tomorrow. The think tank stands out for the variety of topics covered in its publications and during the events it organizes. The first half of 2024 perfectly illustrates this.
A graduate from the University of Gothenburg and the University of Toulon, Sean Scull, a young specialist in international relations, joined the think tank in February as a new project manager. Holding triple French-American-Swedish nationality, Sean has lived and worked in these three countries!
"Deep State" or Fancy? What is the Influence of Consulting Firms on Public Policy? As part of its "At the Heart of Influences" meeting series, SKEMA Publika organized a breakfast conference on March 28 at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée focused on the state's use of private consulting firms. This event was part of the context of the bill proposed in June 2022 in the Senate to regulate such practices and the creation of the State Internal Advisory Agency in March 2024. With interventions by Yves Morieux, senior advisor at BCG, Caroline Michel-Aguirre, senior reporter at Nouvel Obs, and Éliane Assassi, honorary senator, moderated by Claude Revel, director of the think tank, participants gained nuanced insights into this topic that has been highly discussed since the McKinsey affair.
Work and Tomorrow's Sport
Following the first volume released in July 2023, SKEMA Publika published in June 2024 the second part of its extensive study on "The Sport of Tomorrow: What National and International Policies?". Building on the first part dedicated to the needs and ideas of international youth, this reflection treats sport as a social, political, and geopolitical object.
Discussing the differences between various national sports systems, the responses of these systems to youth demands, and the global trend of standardizing these models, the report aims to illuminate the following questions: Is a global governance of sport desirable and should it define values? In short, how do we prepare for the sport of tomorrow? Besides being featured on specialized sites, the emphasis placed by SKEMA Publika on sport has led to the publication of op-eds in Marianne by Ivan Coste-Manière, director of the at SKEMA Business School, and Claude Revel, respectively on the role of volunteering and the influence of investment funds in sport.
Where is the world heading?
In addition to its focus on sport and youth, SKEMA Publika stands out for its geopolitical expertise and understanding of influence stakes. Freshly arrived at the think tank, Sean Scull has produced an original and convincing reflection on Franco-Swedish affinities as early as May. The rapprochement of these two countries could indeed strengthen European cooperation and remedy the ailments of the Franco-German relationship...
In June 2024, the work of Thomas Deconstanza, PhD in Slavic Language and Literature and a graduate of SKEMA Business School, titled "BRICS+ and 'flying' PIIGS: Let's Make a Clean Slate," was published by SKEMA Publika. This tripartite study seeks to analyze the functioning of country groups such as BRICS+ and PIIGS, their heterogeneous composition, and their weight in international relations and to compare them to established multilateral structures (UN, IMF, EU etc.) to shed light on the dynamics of an increasingly multipolar world and regional order.
Don't miss anything
Far from a seasonal slowdown, the summer of 2024 will mark an acceleration in the think tank's publication schedule and event calendar. Noteworthy are innovative reports on digital transition and the reputational impact of major events, as well as major conferences on sport and artificial intelligence, in France and beyond...
