Constantin Prox: Understanding how organisations grow and become more complex
Constantin Prox is Assistant Professor in Strategy at SKEMA Business School and a member of the Knowledge, Technology and Organization research centre on the Grand Paris campus. His work focuses on firm growth, scaling, scope expansion and the organisational complexity that emerges as companies develop. Drawing on economics and strategy, he studies how organisations structure work as they grow and how these changes shape performance.
Could you briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your academic background?
I recently joined SKEMA as an Assistant Professor, following a PhD in Strategy at INSEAD. My prior academic training also includes a Master’s degree from Stockholm School of Economics and a Bachelor’s degree from Humboldt University of Berlin, both in Economics.
What are the main themes at the core of your research?
My research focuses on firm growth, scaling, scope expansion, and the organisational complexity that results from those. I study both startups and larger corporates, investigating how work activities are structured, how this structure changes during growth, and how these changes drive performance.
What would you like colleagues and students at SKEMA to know about your teaching approach?
In my teaching, I focus on the strategic implications of economic, organisational and cognitive foundations. I enjoy drawing attention to the fundamental patterns that shape how the world works, and I find it especially rewarding when students begin to see why familiar things take the form they do.
