Master in Business Law: AI Takes the Stand at Law Night
Is Generative AI Guilty or Innocent? That is the question at the heart of a mock trial that students from SKEMA’s Grande École Program / Master in Business Law will build and conduct, with the participation of a professional magistrate serving at the Lille Judicial Court and several generative AI experts, including two lawyers specializing in the field.
Drawing on real-world cases inspired by current developments, students will take on the various roles required for the hearing, including attorneys and assessors. The exercise is designed to immerse them in courtroom procedures, legal argumentation, and the challenges raised by the growing use of artificial intelligence.
“The evening will also feature a practice session for the French Bar Exam oral examination. One student will have 30 minutes to prepare a topic before facing a 45-minute oral assessment before a jury composed of students, a lawyer from the Paris Bar, and one of my former students from SKEMA’s Business Law master’s program,” explains Isabelle Bufflier.
The objective is to recreate the conditions of the examination while helping students develop their reasoning skills, public speaking abilities, and capacity to defend a position before a jury.
Through these two practical exercises, Law Night offers a hands-on approach to legal education, combining mastery of legal rules, oral advocacy, and reflection on the transformations reshaping the legal profession.
