Invited to speak to third-year students of SKEMA Business School’s Master in Management (PGE) programme, Stefanie Stantcheva, Professor of Economics at Harvard University and founder of the Social Economics Lab, delivered a lecture from the United States on the topic: “Fighting Climate Change: International Attitudes Towards Climate Policies.”

Awarded the John Bates Clark Medal—often described as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Economics for scholars under 40—Stefanie Stantcheva is a professor at Harvard University known for her research on taxation, innovation, and redistribution, as well as on citizens’ economic perceptions and beliefs. “We had the privilege of welcoming an exceptional guest. Stefanie Stantcheva shared with our students a deeply insightful perspective on how people’s perceptions, beliefs and attitudes shape the implementation of climate policies. Understanding these dynamics is essential to designing effective and widely accepted public policies,” said Frédéric Munier.

Stefanie Stantcheva represents a new generation of economists—rigorous, grounded in reality

Her talk, organised and coordinated by Frédéric Munier, Director of the SKEMA School of Geopolitics for Business, and Rodolphe Desbordes, Professor of Economics and Director of the SKEMA Centre for Global Risks, drew strong interest from students and sparked a lively debate on the political and economic levers of the ecological transition. “Stefanie Stantcheva represents a new generation of economists—rigorous, grounded in reality, and committed to putting their expertise at the service of the common good,” added Rodolphe Desbordes.
