SKEMA PhD students nominated for Best Paper Award by Academy of Management

SKEMA is proud to announce that two of its PhD students have been nominated this year for the Best Paper Award by the Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) division of the Academy of Management. This recognition is particularly significant for SKEMA's KTO research centre (Knowledge, Technology, and Organisation).

Artyom Yepremyan and Marco Balzano (pursuing a double degree with the Ca' Foscari University of Venice) have been nominated for this prestigious award. This nomination is a testament to the quality of their research and their commitment to innovation.

Marco Balzano, one of the nominated PhD students in management, explains: “The paper is titled: 'Hold or Hurry? How Firms Adjust Their Speed of Imitation in the Face of Technological Transitions'. It has received three important recognitions. First, it will be published in a shortened version in the Best Paper Proceedings of the 2024 Academy of Management conference. Second, it was nominated for the TIM Best Conference Paper Award. Third, it was nominated for the TIM Best Student Paper Award. The paper examines the determinants of the pace at which firms imitate innovations introduced by rivals, particularly focusing on periods of technological stability compared to those of technological transition. It is advanced that during periods of technological transition, the speed of imitation of rivals' innovations is lower than during periods of technological stability. Moreover, various contingencies that influence this relationship are explored, including the characteristics of the imitator, the imitated firm, and the imitated technology." Artyom Yepremyan, PhD student in management adds: "The paper analyses the possibility of improving AI performance through the incorporation of human inputs and how it depends on the specific and general experience of humans."

It is worth noting that SKEMA professors Paul Emmanuel Anckaert and Bruno Cirillo had previously won significant awards in this same division in 2021 and 2013 respectively, highlighting SKEMA's history of academic excellence.
