Vendée Globe: Benjamin Ferré Completes His Round-the-World Challenge in 84 Days!

After 84 days battling the oceans, Benjamin Ferré (SKEMA 2015) has reached Les Sables d’Olonne, achieving his extraordinary challenge. The SKEMA Business School alumnus has successfully completed his first solo round-the-world race, securing 16th place in the Vendée Globe – and never losing his trademark smile!
With windswept hair, an exhausted face, a beaming smile, and tears of joy streaming down his cheeks, Benjamin Ferré crossed the finish line on Monday, 3 February, completing his epic journey in 84 days, 23 hours, and 19 minutes. Sailing into the legendary channel, he soaked up the unforgettable moment, even claiming victory in the category of classic IMOCA yachts with daggerboards, just ahead of his final rival, skipper Tanguy Le Turquais.
"It’s magical. Crossing the finish line felt like winning the Vendée Globe. I told myself: I’ve done it, I’ve conquered the Vendée Globe!" he said, reflecting his usual spontaneity. Throughout a breathtaking race, Ferré maintained his relentless energy and good spirits – whether marvelling at an albatross ballet in the Southern Ocean or scaling his mast to fix a critical part, overcoming his fear of heights.
"Tears of Gratitude"
Battling roaring seas, the protégé of sailing legend Jean Le Cam (who arrived the following day) kept his boat intact and stayed on course with full sails. "In my life, I’ve known tears of joy and sorrow. But today, I discovered tears of gratitude. I’m thankful to every person who helped me get here," he shared upon arrival, before taking to the Vendée Globe stage to sing alongside British artist Murray Head.
A Remarkable First Vendée Globe for Benjamin Ferré
With resilience, passion, and a deep love for adventure, Ferré has etched his name into the Vendée Globe legend. His remarkable journey stands as a testament to courage, determination, and the indomitable human spirit.
