Professor Edgar Jacobs, the programme coordinator, welcomed Tiago Moura, professor in applied technology, CTO of HOP Digital and IBM Lifetime Champion. He began the discussion clarifying some misconceptions around basic artificial intelligence terms, by defining the three main concepts of the area: deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Professor Jacobs followed up with elements from a legal perspective.
The webinar highlighted a few of the topics that will be developed during the programme, based on three main pillars:
- The impact of technology in society
- New laws, (discussions around data protection, for instance)
- Artificial intelligence as a tool.
After that, those who registered for the Global Nano, taught fully in English, will dive deep in other subjects:, artificial intelligence and human rights and the relationship between law and AI in the European Union, for example, with classes taught by internationally recognised professors.
