China campus: 10th anniversary celebration

Published on 18 October 2019

For the 10th anniversary celebration of the SKEMA China campus, Eddie Bullen accompanied with his sons, Quincy and Tre Michael, put on a concert on the banks of Dushu Lake, October 12. Bullen (winner of the Canadian Grammy Juno Award) and his sons caused a sensation among the audience of a thousand.

Local media outlets such as Wireless Suzhou, Suzhou Business, Xinhua Net reported on the concert.

On piano, bass guitar and drums, the group covered a variety of genres ranging from pop to classical music.

After the concert, the HOPE student society brought a charitable side to this festive evening. HOPE was the first student society to set up on the Suzhou campus. At this event, HOPE raised money and collected books for children in western China.

Working with the Huihu Academy, the Tang Mama Charity Centre, and the Dushu Lake Theatre, this charity concert attracted hundreds of spectators into donating books. Donors were given a certificate and a souvenir photo.

The HOPE student society had sold tickets for the concert to students on the Suzhou campus. As a result, thanks to ticket sales and student donations, SKEMA Business School and HOPE were able to donate 100 school bags (filled with supplies) to the Tang Mama Charity Centre to help children in disadvantaged areas in western China.

Julie Garnier, president of Hope Suzhou, would like to thank the students who participated in this event: "I was surprised to see such enthusiasm among students for this. They didn’t hesitate to come and make donations for the children. This is the spirit we’re looking for!”

Matthieu Dumont, Suzhou campus director, explained at the event: "The Chinese campus was SKEMA's first international campus, officially launching SKEMA's global strategy. While we had only one programme back in 2009 and just 79 students, we now have nine programmes and just over 800 international students enrolled each year. The Suzhou campus has grown rapidly, creating a bridge for cultural exchanges.”
