Christophe Bisson will be joined by other prominent researchers and academicians and will contribute his expertise on digital and decision making and its implications on political and civic life.
How does 'digital' influence political life and public opinion? Christophe Bisson, director of the MSc International Strategy & Influence, will be leading a panel to discuss this central question. "I will speak on the technological aspects, explain how algorithms are created and what influence they can have on the perception of political leaders and political life in general. This question is in line with some of the courses I give in my MSc," explained Christophe Bisson, who is also a guest editor of the European Journal of Futures Research for the creation of a special edition on the theme "Future of Democracy". This is a major publication related to strategic prediction.
An influence on decision making
For the researcher, social media and algorithms have an increasing direct impact on political and economic decision-making — these tools can condition citizens' vote, showing that sometimes they can weaken democracy. "The springs used by algorithms and social media influence people's emotions, perception, and therefore, decision. We can say today that citizens live more and more in virtual bubbles and the information they receive is filtered and personalised," added Christophe Bisson.
