Sailing: alumnus Benjamin Ferré gears up for Défi Azimut race

Published on 13 September 2022

Benjamin Ferré, SKEMA alumnus (2015) of the Master in Management (PGE), is taking part in the Défi Azimut from 13 to 18 September in Lorient, France. With this race, the entrepreneur-adventurer, on his way to the Vendée Globe with the sponsorship of SKEMA Business School, returns to the port where it all began.

In 2019, Benjamin Ferré (alias "Benjamin envoie le pépin") set off from Lorient for the Mini Transat on a 6.5-metre-long boat. In 2022, the SKEMA alumnus, who came fourth in the recent Vendée Arctique race, will return to where it all began and take part in Défi Azimut, a preparatory race for the Vendée Globe that will take place in 2024. SKEMA Business School is an official sponsor of this fabulous maritime epic.

The sailor from Saint Malo will be aboard "Monnoyeur-Duo for a Job", an IMOCA class boat that won the Vendée Globe in 2013 with François Gabart. During the Azimuth Challenge, the alumnus will take part in runs (speed tests) and will sail around the island of Groix alongside other skippers. In total, this represents 48 hours of challenge and a total course of 500 miles that will ultimately count towards the selective miles of the Vendée Globe.

Guided by an expert

Since the beginning of his adventure on the seas, Benjamin Ferré's objective has been clear: to finish the Vendée Globe in 2024 at all costs. To achieve this, the SKEMA alumnus is counting on the support of the team of "King Jean Le Cam", an experienced sailor who has taken part in five Vendée Globe races.
