SKEMA United: the sports challenge for a good cause was a success

Published on 15 November 2019

After a month of intense competition, SKEMA United, SKEMA’s sports challenge for a good cause, ended on Wednesday 30 October. Here is a review of this successful first edition.

You be the judge: more than 2,300 participants across a dozen countries (France, China, USA, Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, India, England, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Morocco and South Korea), divided into 400 teams; three sporting events held at our Lille, Sophia Antipolis and Paris campuses; and a total of 250,000 km covered, the equivalent of five round-the-world tours of our campuses, all in the name of funding the school’s scholarships.

SKEMA thanks all participants ─ students, alumni and staff ─ for this amazing turnout, as well as the 18 partner companies, the four event sponsors (Crystal Finance, Roquette SA, Société Générale and Assurances AVA) and of course the event patrons, high-level athletes Alain Bernard, Alexandra Louison and Rouguy Diallo.

Congratulations to Prism, the team that finished the challenge in first place, made up of eight SKEMA faculty members: Pierre Daniel, Paul Gardiner, Oussama Ammar, Carole Daniel, Amine Ezzerouali, Humberto Brea Solis, Nabila Boukef and Xavier Brusset.

“The goal with SKEMA United was to mobilise the entire SKEMA community ─ students, faculty members, staff, alumni, partner companies ─ to raise funds for the school’s scholarship programmes. Thanks to the efforts of all participants and to our sponsors, the 250,000 km covered, representing five round-the-world tours of our campuses, will be turned into cash for our scholarship funds. The project team, and particularly Pierre-Henri Glantenet and Margaux Richard, should be proud of this first edition, because the challenge created a wave of solidarity, sharing and healthy competition around the world,” said Cedric Bedini, head of SKEMA fundraising.

We leave the final word to Julie, a scholarship student at SKEMA: “I think it is very important to encourage the integration of scholarship students in business schools and SKEMA United is a great sports challenge for a good cause. We should definitely do it again.”
