Smart Food: two start-ups in the spotlight

Published on 08 April 2019

Père & Fish and Meet My Mama, two start-ups created by graduates from SKEMA in the sustainable catering sector, have received widespread recognition.

Père & Fish is among the first fish burger chains in Europe. Antony Giordano, Ava Maisani Casanova, Charles Cagnac and Alex Rafaitin, who studied MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation at SKEMA Business School’s Sophia Antipolis campus, are its founders. The entrepreneurs opened the first restaurant in Boulevard Poissonnière (Fishmonger Boulevard!), Paris. Père & Fish, which promotes sustainable fishing, has already won several competitions such as the ‘Challenge Pépite France’ competition for student entrepreneurs, the ‘Prix Banque Populaire’ in 2017, the ‘100 jours pour entreprendre’ competition and the 2018 Bourse Badoit.
Winning the first prize at the ‘Sandwich & Snack Show Academy’, a leading trade fair for fast food and takeaways at Porte de Versailles, Paris, is the latest feather in their cap. This prize recognises the concepts which have ‘an innovative idea, are in line with fast food trends and have a business model which can be replicated’.

At the end of March, Challenges (a popular French business magazine) published its list of ‘100 Start-ups to invest in in 2019’. In the food and agro category, Meet My Mama, “an online delicatessen which creates culinary journeys for businesses” has been featured. The start-up, which was co-founded by Youssef Oudahman (a graduate from SKEMA in 2012 with an MSc in International Marketing and Business Development), offers a delicatessen service which showcases the talents of female refugees and those from a migrant background (watch his video interview). The business “with a very strong social aspect” has already “attracted several big businesses, such as LVMH, Google and Vinci,” the magazine tells us.
